Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates, a federation composed by seven emirates, which are:

  • ABU DHABI

This emirate is home to the beautiful capital, which is the main topic of this blog, of course! – but also many other charming cities and towns.
Al Ain is probably the best known city after Abu Dhabi, and there you can find the highest mountain in the UAE, as well as a plethora of historical and natural sites of great beauty, including the Al Ain Oasis, which to date is the only UNESCO site in the country.
In this emirate there are also several desert resorts (such as Qasr al Sarab or the Arabian Nights Village) and even an entire island which is a protected national park (Sir Bani Yas Island).

The smallest emirate, only two hours away from Abu Dhabi, it offers several beautiful natural reserves and luscious parks, a gorgeous corniche and a fascinating museum and dhow yard.

The main city in the emirate of Dubai is very well known for its many skyscrapers and sporting events, as well as being home to gigantic shopping malls, an indoor mountain and the tallest building in the world, all just one hour away from Abu Dhabi.

This charming emirate is home to the oldest mosque in the UAE, beautiful beaches facing the Indian Ocean and very interesting forts and museums. It is a great place for boat trips and fishing.

The best preserved traditional fisherman village in the UAE is in this emirate, as well as beautiful wildlife conservation sanctuaries. It is particularly popular with golf lovers.

This is the only emirate to have a coastline both on the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. The Heart of Sharja, an important local culture heritage site, is currently being considered for inclusion into the UNESCO registers.

This emirate has a beautiful mixture of landscapes, from rolling dunes to luscious coastal mangroves. It is great for watersports and their aviation club is famous for offering hot air balloon rides, skydiving experiences and more.

On this side of the world, we are in what is considered ‘the Gulf’, referring to countries bordering – or in proximity of – the Persian Gulf.
Apart from the UAE, the Arabian peninsula also consists of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Yemen.

Here are the countries we have visited so far: (coming soon)

REST OF THE WORLD copy

Etihad is the airline based in Abu Dhabi (while Emirates is based in Dubai) and it is world- famous for its high standards of service (they even have a nanny on board!). Their daily schedule covers most of the planet, and they often offer holiday packages and great discounted deals, as well as having a frequent flyer plan.

Travelling to the United Kingdom, and Europe in general, takes just about 6 to 8 hours (considering that there is a 3-4 hour difference in time setting), while going to India, or Asia in general, can take even less, with Mumbai being only 3 hours away.

If you want to know more, this handy tool calculates flight times between cities, making it super-easy to plan your next holiday.

Below we will write about our world travel experiences while living in Abu Dhabi. (coming soon)
